No Mirrors

It is more common than you might think: A vehicle with no mirrors. Troopers commonly get questions about how many mirrors must be on a vehicle, in the instance that one gets knocked off in a crash or broken.

Arkansas law requires that you have a rear view mirror to provide the view behind you. If you have a vehicle that the rear view would be blocked (such as a box truck or camper shell) you must have side view mirrors. This means you can legally drive your car with only a rear view mirror, although it’s not particularly safe!! It’s very difficult to get a good view of traffic on the passenger side of your car from the driver’s seat without a side view mirror, and gives you a much greater chance of causing a crash.

Despite the legal requirements concerning rear view mirrors, it is highly advisable to ensure that all three rear view mirrors are intact. It would be very irresponsible to drive any vehicle that does not offer an adequate view of the rear, especially when changing lanes, overtaking other vehicles and parking.

it is important to be aware that although not illegal, you can still be stopped by law enforcement if they notice that any of your mirrors is damaged or missing, to check for compliance with this law.

27-37-305. Mirrors

(b) Every motor vehicle which is so constructed or loaded as to obstruct the driver's view to the rear thereof from the driver's position shall be equipped with a mirror located so as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least two hundred feet (200') to the rear of the vehicle.
